Glass – PIASTRA – handmade mastery
PIASTRA glass – handmade mastery of Italian craftsmen
In the ANTIGO offer, we use various elements and details to decorate our lamps, such as textile lampshades, metallic lampshades, glass lampshades, crystals, optical glass, stainless steel parts, plastics and many others.
Glass lampshades, about which there will be a few words here, are manufactured in many different ways.
These lampshades can be:
- blown by glassworkers
- made using centrifugal spinning technology
- pressed on special presses
- cast from glass pig iron similarly to casting cast iron, non-ferrous metals, etc.
The latter method in the Italian school of glassmaking is PIASTRA.
PIASTRA in Italian means plate. PIASTRA is an old Italian technology of manual production of decorative glass, which in the manufacturing process resembles preparing and baking pizza. Just as you prepare pizza dough, with all the secrets of the master, so too is a glass cake prepared. Just as the dough is ready and toppings are added to it, the glass cake is decorated with various textures, colors, metalized coatings or glitter.
Analogies to Italian cuisine PIASTRA as a technology for manufacturing glass for lighting has many common features and analogies to Italian cuisine. Example: spaghetti glass. It is nothing more than a glass stream pressed and arranged by a glassworker in an appropriate way, and then hand-decorated by masters of the decoration department.
Spaghetti glass is used both in lighting and other elements of interior design. Interior decorations ANTIGO has been using PIASTRA glass in its frames and lamps for many years.
This glass is absolutely unique, hand-made by Italian masters and is a unique decoration for every interior of the most demanding customers.
