LAMP MAINTENANCE, or what to do to make them last as long as possible.

Lamp maintenance, or what to do to make them last as long as possible.

In the ANTIGO offer, we use various types of elements and details to decorate our lamps, such as textile lampshades, metallic lampshades, glass shades, crystals, optical glass, stainless steel parts, plastics and many others.

How to take care of these elements? How to clean and maintain them?

    1. How do we clean the glass elements of Antigo lamps?

PIASTRA glass, used in the form of lampshades and decorations in Antigo products, and all other glass lampshades, regardless of the manufacturing technology, are cleaned in a similar way, preferably in the shower. If it is possible to remove them from the lamp, we remove them, spray them with any chemical agent for cleaning glass and rinse with warm water. We do not wipe the Piastra glass on the inside due to the glass glitter inside, all other parts should be wiped dry with a soft, dry cloth or paper on both sides. In case of larger stains, we can gently dampen the cloth in methylated spirits and clean the stain.

    2. How do we clean crystal elements?

Crystal elements, of which there are sometimes quite a lot on the lamp, can be cleaned in two ways.

The first, more difficult, is laboriously wiping crystal by crystal with a soft cotton cloth without any detergents.

The second method is to use a special agent in the form of a sprayer, such as Sparkle Plenty or similar. The method consists in spraying the entire crystal lamp after previously disconnecting it from the electricity. Then you should wait for the chemicals to flow from the lamp into a plastic container under the frame and then manually dry with a soft, cotton cloth.

    3. How do we clean textile and metallic lampshades?

It is best to just vacuum them thoroughly. If that's not enough, gently wipe with a magic sponge with a minimal amount of water. Lampshades don't like water, it's easy to peel off the piping when wet, so a wet magic sponge with absolutely no detergents is best. Note: textile lampshades are almost always laminated on the inside with PVC foil, sometimes this foil is gold, silver or in another color, sometimes it's not visible because it's transparent. When washing the lampshade in a larger amount of water, there's a high risk of delamination of the materials, air bubbles and practically destroying the lampshade.

    4. How do we clean the lamp structure - metal elements made of steel and aluminum?

Warm water, a soft cloth slightly dampened, and then wipe dry. Do not use sharp instruments or aggressive chemicals.

    5. How do we clean lamp structures made of stainless steel, brass or copper?

Proper, similar to steel or aluminum, i.e. warm water, a soft cloth slightly dampened, and then wipe dry. Do not use sharp instruments or aggressive chemicals.

Note: stainless steel lamps are protected with a transparent varnish of the clear type, the mechanical or chemical damage of which, with an aggressive liquid, e.g. bathroom cleaning, will permanently damage the lamp.

Unprotected coatings will start to oxidize and the lamp will darken, stains will appear that are practically impossible to remove using home methods.

SUMMARY

In this advice, we focus more on how not to destroy - because often we are contacted by lamp users who, as a result of ignorance, have destroyed the lamp, often irreversibly. If something is unclear to you, we have forgotten something or requires further clarification.
